Returns & Exchanges

Follow these simple steps to return or exchange your item(s):
Return at Retail Store
1—Find the Nearest Location
2—Bring Invoice & Item(s) to Store
If you wish to return or exchange any portion of your order, please bring the original invoice you received with your order, original form of payment used and a valid I.D. Orders placed with PayPal must be returned by mail.
3—Return or Exchange
If you are returning an item, your original form of payment will be refunded for the full amount you paid for the item, including taxes.
Return by Mail
1—Complete Return Form
If you wish to return or exchange any portion of your online order, please complete the Return Form and include it with your return shipment.

2—Authorize
Be sure to sign and date the Return Form. Exchanges will be processed as a new order.
*Your original form of payment will be refunded, and then charged for the replacement.
3—Repack Merchandise
Please make sure that the item(s) you wish to return, along with the Return Form are included with your return shipment.
4—Ship
Once we receive your return shipment, you will be notified via email. You are responsible for return shipping.

Our Policy
  • American Apparel offers full refunds for unworn, unwashed, undamaged, or defective merchandise within 45 days of the original purchase accompanied by a receipt and with any original tag(s) attached. All refunds will be made in the form of the original payment/card unless a gift card is requested. Requests to exchange merchandise received as a gift must be accompanied by a Gift Receipt.
  • Online orders returned in-store must be accompanied by the original invoice, original form of payment used, and a valid form of ID. All refunds will be made in the form of the original payment/card unless a gift card is requested. Orders placed with PayPal must be returned by mail.
  • Exchanges are processed as a new order. We will refund your original form of payment for the value of the returned merchandise and charge you for the new order. Please note this process is not always sequential.
  • Items purchased from any retail store cannot be returned to the Online Store.
  • The original shipping charge for online orders is not refunded.
  • Some pieces by American Apparel are sold with intentional imperfections. If you are not sure if your item is intentionally imperfect, please contact customer service.
Returning a Gift?

If so, you will be issued an American Apparel Gift Card Number via email which can be used online and/or at retail stores. All gifts must be returned by mail. If you have any questions, please contact customer service.
Refunds

Exchanges
